- Philomaths drinking water meets or exceeds all
Federal and State Health Division standards. In fact, Philomaths drinking water was
recently selected as the "Best Tasting Surface Water" in the state, according to
a taste test conducted by the Oregon Association of Water Utilities.
- Chlorine is added to the water as a disinfectant a Health
Division requirement.
- Fluoride is added as a cavity fighter voter approved in the
early 1980s.
- You can shut off the water to your home or business in the meter box,
usually located near the curb, sidewalk or property line. Please operate the gate valve on
the Customers side of the meter; not the valve on the public side this valve
is trickier to operate, and if broken, extensive repair costs are the responsibility of
the property owner. Please dont hesitate to call us for assistance.
- Forty-eight (48) hours prior to performing any excavation, it is a
requirement to call all public utilities to prevent damage and liability. Its easy
and free just call the Utility Notification Center at 1-800-332-2344. They will
then notify all the utilities, which are required to mark their respective underground
utilities. So remember to call before you dig!
- All private wastewater piping (new installations or renovations) is
required to include at the property line a clean-out, which provides access for sewer
cleaning equipment. A permit is required for new installations or renovations and the work
must be inspected by Public Works prior to backfilling.
- Sidewalk construction also requires a permit and must be inspected
prior to pouring concrete.
- House numbers are to be prominently displayed on or near the front
door of all homes/businesses within the city.
- Fences and walls may be located on private
property as long as they do not exceed the following height
guidelines: four feet adjacent to a street or
sidewalk; three feet in a vision clearance area, such as intersections; or six
feet along other property lines. Feel free to call before you build for regulations.
- Trees and bushes along the sidewalk or street cannot impede
pedestrian or vehicular travel. Property owners are asked to keep these travel ways clear
of any vegetation that encroaches across the sidewalk or hangs lower than 8 above a
sidewalk or 10 above the roadway.
- Property owners are responsible to prevent a potential fire hazard by
controlling noxious vegetation and tall grass, which may not exceed 12 inches.
