2023 Samaritan Awards - People's Choice Award
At the 2023 Philomath Chamber Samaritan Awards, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians were recognized and honored for their contributions to the Philomath community.
Nomination Statement:
The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians give a great deal to the City of Philomath through their charitable contribution fund.
During the pandemic, the Siletz Indians routinely provided funding to the Philomath Food Bank and the Philomath Gleaner Programs to assist those in our community facing food insecurities. The Siletz Indian Tribe have funded new equipment for Philomath First Responders. In 2020 they funded a new digital traffic speed sign for the Philomath Police Department. This sign allows PPD to look at data online to do quicker studies of traffic-related issues, traffic counts.
The Tribe also provided funding for Philomath Fire & Rescue to purchase two new Zoll X-Series Cardiac Monitors. These life-saving devices offer the highest level of prehospital care, ensuring patients have the best chances for survival after experiencing a life-threatening emergency.
The Siletz Tribe have attended Philomath City Council to celebrate Indigenous People's Day the last few years and have delivered educational opportunities to PHS students and teachers on Native American Indian Heritage. The Siletz Tribe has maintained a partnership with the Philomath High School District that has lasted approximately 80 years whereby the Tribe continues to allow PHS to utilize the Warrior Logo as the Mascot.
This is reflective of the goodwill and partnership that Philomath has established with the Siletz Tribes spanning multiple decades. Additionally, the Siletz Indians annually fund grants for the Philomath Senior All-Night Party to ensure our graduating seniors remain safe on graduation night.
This Samaritan Award is presented to the Siletz Tribe for all their philanthropy and support of the Philomath Community.
