Places and events worth exploring in and around Philomath, Oregon

Philomath is the most spectacular place with a variety of exciting and rewarding places and events to explore. Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is the 2025 Philomath Discovery Challenge. Visit or participate in at least 20 different locations, events, or volunteer efforts between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025, to participate. To qualify for this challenge, you must visit sites that are listed in this booklet and document your visits by sending photos via email or tagging posts on social media. Turn in your completed tracking sheet by the deadline.

We welcome participants new to the area and those who have been around for decades. There is something for everyone in this challenge. You’ll get to visit places and events in Philomath and depending on number of locations, will be eligible for an invitation to a participant event, City Council recognition, shout-outs on socials, and prizes. We hope you will take this opportunity to explore new places and visit some you may have forgotten about.

Here's How to Participate 

Step 1. Download the Philomath Discovery Challenge Guidebook and Scorecard to track your progress. You can also stop by the Chamber of Commerce kiosk at the Philomath Museum or Library for a printed copy or stop in at Philomath City Hall. Addresses for most of the locations are in the Philomath Discovery Challenge Location Addresses list. 

Step 2. Snap a selfie at each spot with you and the location identifiable in the photo. Share your visits with the world via social media (tag #DiscoverPhilomath on Facebook or Instagram) or email if you prefer.

Step 3. Use the score card to track your progress and submit by December 31, 2025, to discover@philomathoregon.gov or by mail to City of Philomath, P.O. Box 400, Philomath, OR 97370. You can also drop it off at Philomath City Hall, 980 Applegate Street.

Step 4. Visiting Philomath is a reward in itself but for those of you who complete the challenge, you’ll receive an invitation to a celebration and depending on the recognition level obtained, you’ll win local swag which could include mugs, tickets to local events, branded clothing, and more!
