Public Art Committee Application
Committee Purpose: The Public Art Ad Hoc Committee will be soliciting public art ideas and making final recommendations to the City Council for art to be placed within the Streetscape Design in the Philomath Downtown area. Specifically, the Committee will work with artists to develop large, round, metal sidewalk inserts that reflect the area’s history, culture or significance. The Committee will also solicit ideas and materials for an informational kiosk and make a recommendation to the City Council. The Committee may also solicit and consider pieces of public art for the concrete plinths located throughout the Streetscape design.

Meeting Dates: TBD. Likely 1-2 meetings per month for the first 2-4 months.
A total of 9 community members will comprise this committee. The City Council will make the final selection of Committee members. The Council, Planning Commission, and Park Advisory Board will each be represented on this committee by 1 members. The remaining 6 positions will be selected from community members, using this open application process.
The City desires to form a committee with a diverse membership that accurately reflects the population of our community. The City is utilizing Oregon's Department of Land Conservation and Development's (DLCD) “priority populations” list (see below) with the addition of “female business owner” to make selections.
Applicants will be randomly selected from each of the following groups:
2 – Area business owners, minimum one applicant with at least one identify belonging to "Priority Populations"
2 -- Streetscape Design Review Committee members, minimum one applicant with at least one identity belonging to "Priority Populations"
2 -- At large community members, minimum of one applicant with at least one identity belonging to "Priority Populations"

Please email your completed application to ruth.post@philomathoregon.gov, mail to PO Box 400, Philomath, OR 97370, or place it in the Drop Box at City Hall, 980 Applegate Street by Monday, September 27, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. The Committee's first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, at 5:30 p.m.
We will notify all applicants of the final committee appointments on October 12, 2021 via email.
If you are not appointed to the committee but would like to participate, please (1) sign up to speak during the public comments section of each committee meeting, or (2) provide written comments prior to the start of each committee meeting
